OLIVIERI/MERCATINI: Inno di Garibaldi

(Savignano sul Rubicone 1875 - Venice Los Angeles 1941)

Quando era giovane e senza mezzi per poter studiare salvò la vita ad un prete che stava annegando. Questi lo ricompensò e lo aiutò a trovare il resto per potersi iscrivere al Liceo Musicale di Pesaro, allora diretto da Mascagni. Questi, colpito dal valore del cantante, lo scritturò per il suo tour negli Stati Uniti dove decise di restare. Fece un lungo giro negli Stati Uniti con Enrico Caruso. Si ritirò nel 1920 ed aprì una scuola di canto. Nel 1935 recitò in due films "Pardom my scotch" e "Ginger". Probabilmente il suo debutto operistico fu nel 1902 al Comunale di Cesenatico in Boheme.

When he was young and without means to study saved the life of a priest who was drowning.
